Frances Galante’s representational oil paintings combine influences of the classical, romantic and impressionist traditions of Western painting with an emphasis on capturing the ambiance of any situation she paints. The sense of aliveness she reveals in her work is a function of her sensitivity to the presence of air and the specific quality of light.

Ms. Galante’s still lifes, interior scenes, portraits and landscapes have been exhibited widely in solo and group shows across the region, including at the Woodmere Art Museum, Michener Art Museum, Noyes Museum and the Delaware Center for Contemporary Art. She received a Citation from the Pennsylvania House of Representatives in connection with the 2010 Trocaire Leadership Award for Creative Arts presented by Gwynedd Mercy Academy High School.

She has won several awards at area juried shows including the Edith Emerson Prize at the Woodmere Art Museum, Jurors’ Choice Award at the Main Line Art Center, the Award for Outstanding Achievement at the Long Beach Island Foundation of the Arts and Sciences and several awards at The Philadelphia Sketch Club.

Galante received her BFA from Tyler School of Art (with a semester abroad at Temple Rome) where she studied with John Moore and Charles Schmidt. She received a full scholarship to the Ox-Bow Artist Residency in Saugatuck, Michigan. There she met Lennart Anderson who was influential in directing her painting toward atmospheric realism. She also studied at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts with Arthur DeCosta, Louis B. Sloan and Glenn Rudderow.

Ms. Galante’s was one of “Three to Watch” in Fine Art Connoisseur magazine and has been reviewed by Diana Cercone in Art Matters and Edward J. Sozanski in The Philadelphia Inquirer, and her paintings can be found in several area collections including Woodmere Art Museum, Glenmede Investment and Wealth Management, and the law firm Stradley Ronon. Her work was reproduced in a German book entitled “Rosen – Liebhaberinnen” by Sabine Frank published by Elisabeth Sandmann. Her works can also be viewed on Art Odyssey.

Frances is represented by Artists’ House Gallery in Philadelphia, PA, Pandion Gallery in Fishers Island, NY and Art at Valley Lake Gallery in Horsham, PA. She currently teaches painting at Woodmere Art Museum and formerly at Fleisher, the Wayne Art Center and the Manayunk-Roxborough Art Center. She also conducts private painting workshops.
